Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, has shown his support for the community of Syracuse by raising $600,000 for the family of slain Onondaga County Sheriff Lt. Michael Hosock. The fundraising effort was initiated in response to the tragic loss of Lt. Hosock and Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen, who were killed in a violent incident in Salina. Portnoy’s generosity serves as a reminder of the power of solidarity and support in times of tragedy.
Portnoy is known for his candid opinions and previously visited Syracuse for a Barstool competition. While there, he expressed his love for the local bars but also criticized the Northern Lights Plaza in Mattydale as “disgusting.” Despite his mixed reviews, he has continued to support the community in times of need.
The $600,000 raised so far came from t-shirt sales, with an additional $100,000 donation from UFC president Dana White. Portnoy himself matched these donations with another $300,000, bringing the total raised so far to $600,000. This fundraising effort is just one of many initiatives aimed at supporting the families of the fallen officers during this difficult time.
As Syracuse comes together to mourn the loss of these brave officers, Portnoy’s generosity serves as a reminder that even in times of criticism and mixed reviews, it is important to show support and care for our communities.
