Meghan Musnicki, the final connection to the eight dynasty: U.S. Olympic rowing team roster announced

The U.S. Rowing team for Paris has been announced, and Meghan Musnicki, a two-time gold medalist and the oldest American woman on the team at 41 years old, is among the first 21 rowers named. Musnicki is part of a group of 12 women who will be placed in either the four boat or the eight boat, according to U.S. Rowing.

Additional rowers will qualify for the Paris Games through the Olympic Trials in Sarasota and an international qualifying regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland. Musnicki has been a key member of the U.S. women’s eight dynasty that dominated from 2006 to 2016, winning every Olympic and world title during that time. She is nicknamed “Moose” and has been a part of multiple gold medal-winning teams.

The rest of the Olympic team members named on Monday include Nina Castagna, who is set to take over as coxswain of the women’s eight. Castagna will follow in the footsteps of other Washington Huskies who have coxed the women’s eight in previous Olympics.

Musnicki has competed in four Olympics and is looking to tie the American record for most Olympic rowing appearances. She initially struggled to make the national team but eventually found success and has been a consistent performer on the global stage.

The remaining rowers named on Monday include athletes from various states such as California, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Washington State and Wisconsin.

In conclusion, Musnicki’s inclusion in the team marks her fourth appearance at an Olympics and her sixth overall selection to represent Team USA in rowing competition. The rest of the team includes a mix of experienced athletes and newcomers who will compete across various disciplines such as double sculls, single sculls and quadruple sculls.
