ASU Launches First-of-Its-Kind Artificial Intelligence Degree as Technology Industry Thrives; Advanced Fiber Technology Expands with Cutting-Edge Equipment, Creating Jobs and Boosting Income Tax Revenue in Crawford County

Arizona State University is now offering a degree in artificial intelligence, reflecting the growing popularity of the technology as it continues to evolve. This program at ASU is the first of its kind, showcasing the university’s commitment to staying up to date with the latest trends in technology.

Founded in 1988 by Bucyrus-native Doug Leuthold, Advanced Fiber Technology (AFT) specializes in converting recycled wastepaper into insulation for residential and commercial projects, as well as fibers for asphalt paving and industrial applications. The company’s growth has been steady since establishing its first facility in Bucyrus in 2001, and now with the addition of a second production line, AFT will be able to meet the increasing demand for its products.

Advanced Fiber Technology (AFT) has announced the opening of its second production line at its facility in Crossroads Industrial Park. With an investment of $5.5 million, including $4.75 million in cutting-edge technology, robotics, and automation, this expansion will create six full-time positions and maintain the company’s current workforce of 33 employees. The new plant features state-of-the-art equipment manufactured in the US, with many pieces coming from right here in Crawford County.

The decision to invest in a second production line not only strengthens AFT’s presence in the community but also demonstrates their confidence in the local workforce and economic environment. Bucyrus Mayor Bruce Truka commended AFT and IBP for their forward-thinking approach, noting that the expansion will create new jobs and contribute to the city’s income tax revenue. This investment highlights the mutually beneficial relationship between businesses and the community, showcasing the positive impact of strategic decisions on both sides
