PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Thorns forward Janine Beckie tore a ligament in her correct knee and will miss the National Women’s Soccer League season and the Planet Cup this summer season with Canada.

Beckie tore her ACL in a preseason game involving the Thorns and the U.S. below-23 women’s national group Wednesday.

She mentioned “heartbroken is an understatement” in a post Friday on social media.

“Having worked so tough in the course of the off-season for what was set to be a single of the most significant seasons of my profession, defending the title for Portland Thorns and of course playing in the Planet Cup for Canada, getting out for an extended period of time is a hard pill to swallow,” she wrote.

Beckie, 28, has played for the Canadian national group considering the fact that 2014. She created her 101st look for Canada in a match against Japan final month in the team’s final match of the SheBelieves Cup tournament in Texas.

All round she has 36 targets for Canada, at present ranked sixth in the planet.

Beckie signed with the Thorns final season soon after a 4-season stint with Manchester City in the Women’s Super League.

The Thorns mentioned Beckie will have surgery in the coming weeks.
