Bexar County Approves Construction of $35 Million Roadrunner NEST Sports Facility at UTSA

The Roadrunner NEST, a $35 million sports facility at UTSA, has been approved for construction by Bexar County commissioners. The facility, which stands for “Nurturing Elite Sports Talent,” will be accessible to residents and hosted public events and youth sports. Additionally, it will serve as the home for men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball teams at the university.

County Commissioner Grant Moody highlighted that the Roadrunner NEST is not only beneficial to UTSA but also valuable to the entire community. With about half of UTSA’s students coming from Bexar County, the facility is expected to become a hub for sports and athletics in the area.

The joint investment by the county and city reflects a commitment to providing opportunities for community members to engage in sports and recreation activities. Once completed, UTSA will cover the annual operating costs of $500,000. The construction is set to begin in January 2025 and expected to be finished by December 2026.
