Boston Celtics Reinforce Frontcourt Depth on NBA Free Agency’s Opening Day, Re-Sign Neemias Queta and Luke Kornet

The Boston Celtics quickly made moves to solidify their frontcourt on the opening day of NBA free agency. After re-signing Luke Kornet to a one-year deal, the team brought back Neemias Queta on a multi-year contract.

Queta, who just turned 25, had originally signed a two-way contract with the Celtics last year and impressed enough during the season to earn a standard contract in April. In his first season with Boston, he averaged 5.5 points and 4.4 rebounds in limited playing time. He also made history as the first Portuguese NBA player to win a championship.

With Kristaps Porzingis expected to be out until November or December, the Celtics needed depth in the frontcourt, and Queta’s return was crucial. The re-signing of Kornet and Queta provides the Celtics with much-needed depth as they navigate Porzingis’ injury and manage Al Horford’s workload.

The decisions for Boston now fall on Xavier Tillman, JD Davison, Oshae Brissett, Svi Mykhailiuk, and restricted free agent Drew Peterson. With only five players remaining on the free-agent market for Boston, these decisions will have a significant impact on the team’s future success.
