Bogaerts receives standing ovation and tribute video upon return to Boston

Xander Bogaerts made his return to Fenway Park for the first time since signing with the San Diego Padres during Friday night’s series opener against them. The Boston Red Sox fans welcomed him back with a tribute video and a standing ovation, showing their appreciation for his contributions to the team during his 10 seasons with them.

Before the game, Bogaerts expressed disappointment that he wouldn’t be able to play against his former team due to a shoulder injury that has kept him sidelined since May 20. Despite not being able to compete, he was grateful to be back at Fenway Park and soak in the atmosphere.

During his time in Boston, Bogaerts was a four-time All-Star and played the most games ever by a Red Sox shortstop. He recorded 1,410 hits, 156 homers, and had an .814 OPS in 1,264 games with the team. Unfortunately, contract negotiations fell through in 2022, leading to his departure from the Red Sox.

Bogaerts ultimately signed an 11-year, $280 million deal with the San Diego Padres in free agency. While his time in Boston has come to an end, his return to Fenway Park was a special moment for both him and the fans who have supported him throughout his career.
