The fire that started in the southern part of the island of Brač on Saturday is currently being extinguished by 38 firefighters on the scene. Despite burning over five hectares of pine forest, the quick response of the firefighters with 12 vehicles was able to prevent the fire from spreading further.
According to a report from the Brač firefighters, two additional firefighters returned to help extinguish the flames after initially leaving the scene when the fire was localized. There are several cottages near the fire, but thankfully, the firefighters were able to prevent it from reaching them, eliminating any need for evacuations.
The commander of Brački firefighters, Nikola Martinić, believes that with a little more time and effort from his team, they will be able to completely extinguish this blaze by evening. However, some of his team will remain on site throughout the night to ensure that everything stays under control until morning.
