Celebrating Women’s Contributions in Forensic Science: Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center

Dr. Steadman, the head of the firearms examination center, shared that there are 43 employees at the facility, with 34 of them being women. Sara Rogers, a Firearms Examiner at the center, spoke about how gun enthusiasts are often seen as male, but she has taken on the role with expertise. As a Firearms Examiner, Rogers’ primary responsibility is to analyze ammunition components to determine if they were discharged by a specific firearm. Despite not growing up in a state with strict regulations and not having personal passion for firearms, Rogers now carries out her duties efficiently. She acknowledges that working with firearms is her job and she executes it professionally.
