India U-19 captain Uday Saharan rallied his team against South Africa in the semifinal at Willowmoore Park in Benoni. The team was preparing for the World Cup final and Uday had a message for them: “We can’t lose to Australia again.”
The conversation in the WhatsApp group of the current India U-19 group revolved around their ODI World Cup loss to Australia. The group was created on November 24, just five days after the heartbreaking loss in Ahmedabad. Sanjay Dhas, father of Sachin, who starred in the semis with 96 against the best pace attack of the tournament, shared his thoughts on Australia’s dominance over India.
“Most talk was about how Australia has always dominated India in big tournaments,” Sanjay said. “We lost the World Test Championship (WTC) final and then the ODI World Cup final.”
He emphasized that beating Australia was crucial and mentioned that there is no greater pride than doing so in a final match. “Each one of them is ready for this match,” he added. “They want to beat Australia at their own game.”
Sanjay also shared a moment when captain Uday told everyone, “We can’t lose to them again,” after Pakistan tied with Australia during their match on their way to the hotel. The team was determined to make history and not fall victim to another Australian domination in international cricket.
