Breaking the Barriers: Women in High School Sports Journalism Share Insights at Kansas Collegiate Media Convention

Aubreigh Heck, a senior at Kansas Wesleyan University, has been invited to participate in a breakout session at the Kansas Collegiate Media state convention on April 22 at Wichita State University. The session will focus on the importance of covering local sports, particularly high school sports, and how some of the best and most rewarding sports journalism is carried out at the local level.

As a woman covering high school sports in Hutchinson and Salina, Heck will share her insights during the panel discussion and discuss the challenges she has faced in this field. Heck holds a double major in Communications and Public Relations and serves as editor-in-chief at KWU Student Media.

Joining Heck in the session are other panelists such as Scott Paske from the Kansas State High School Activities Association and formerly of the Wichita Eagle, Charles Chaney from The El Dorado Times-Gazette, and Joel Muhs from the McPherson Sentinel. Together they will provide a comprehensive view of the importance and challenges of covering local sports in journalism.
