In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the nonprofit organization Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) recently hosted a Guinness World Record-breaking event at New York’s Plaza Hotel. The event featured 353 ballerinas en pointe at the same time, breaking the record for the most ballet dancers dancing on their toes simultaneously.
The goal of the event was to showcase the healing power of dance and how it can bring people together during times of disconnection. Sergey Gordeev, director of external affairs at YAGP, shared with Gothamist that dance is a unifying and uplifting art form that can bring people together in a positive way.
During the event, all 353 ballerinas went en pointe for a full minute, emphasizing the importance of dance as a powerful tool for bringing people together. Gordeev explained that YAGP’s main objective was to let the world know that dance is a healing force and has the power to unite people in positive ways.
