The Milwaukee Brewers have placed right-hander Jakob Junis on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder impingement. The move is retroactive to Wednesday and left-hander Aaron Ashby has been called up from Triple-A Nashville to take Junis’ place in the rotation.
During his start on Tuesday against Minnesota, Junis felt tightness in his right shoulder, which increased as the game went on. After speaking up about the issue, imaging tests revealed no structural damage, but the team decided to err on the side of caution and place him on the injured list. Manager Pat Murphy believes that Junis’ time on the injured list will be short and that it was a precautionary measure.
In Ashby’s place, he will start in Cincinnati on Monday according to manager Pat Murphy. Ashby underwent left shoulder surgery last April and made one start at Triple-A Nashville this season, allowing three runs and four hits over five innings.
The Brewers hope for a quick recovery for Junis and are confident in Ashby’s ability to step in and contribute to the starting rotation in his absence.
