Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) celebrated the release of its fifth edition of the “Sharing Our World” book on Friday, April 26. The book contains personal journeys of over 200 MATC students from the English as a Second Language (ESL) program, shared through poetry, essays, and more.
Erin Helland, an ESL instructor at MATC, shared her thoughts on the event. “I think students feel a very strong sense of pride when they see their work published and read their story in front of people,” she said. The book features stories from forty-seven different countries, showcasing the diversity of MATC’s student body.
The “Sharing Our World” book is developed by MATC’s community education pathway and has become a beloved tradition among students and faculty alike. It provides a platform for students to share their experiences and connect with others who may have gone through similar challenges or triumphs.
