The Denver Broncos Wire’s 90-man offseason roster series features Michael Burton, the fullback who is in his ninth year and wears No. 20. Before joining the Broncos, Burton was a fifth-round pick from Rutgers and played for the Detroit Lions in 2015. He was waived by the Lions after two seasons and spent two years with the Chicago Bears before attending training camp with the New Orleans Saints in 2019. However, he did not make it to their 53-man roster, and he then spent time with the Washington Commanders before returning to New Orleans and later moving on to play for the Kansas City Chiefs, helping them win Super Bowl LVII.
As a primarily blocker, Burton has recorded 35 rushes for 71 yards and one touchdown while also having 21 receptions for 131 yards and one score throughout his career. After joining the Broncos last spring, Burton signed a one-year contract and served as their fullback during training camp in 2023. His chances of making it onto the team’s 53-man roster seem high as he is currently the only true fullback on the team ahead of training camp, barring any plans to convert tight end/fullback Nate Adkins into a full-time role.
