A fire broke out in a strip mall on Michigan Road in Carmel early Thursday morning, causing the death of one person and injuring another. The Carmel Fire Department responded to the blaze at 3:30 a.m. in the 9800 block of N. Michigan Road. Unfortunately, a man was found dead inside the building, and another person was taken to Eskenazi Hospital with fire-related injuries. Additionally, a Carmel firefighter sustained minor injuries while battling the flames.
As a result of the fire, Michigan Road near 96th Street was closed in both directions for safety reasons.
