Celeros Flow Technology Takes Steps towards Decarbonizing Offshore Oil and Gas Operations in the North Sea with Aker/OKEA Power from Shore Project

Celeros Flow Technology (Celeros FT) is making significant strides in the decarbonization of offshore oil and gas operations in the North Sea with its recent contract award to supply two new water injection packages for the AKER/OKEA power from shore project located off the coast of Norway. These packages will replace gas turbine-driven units, utilizing Norway’s renewable electricity resources to help reduce the carbon footprint of the customer. The project, led by Aker Solutions, will result in a CO2 reduction of up to 200,000 tons per year upon completion in 2026.

Tommy Kassem, CCO of Celeros FT, commented on the company’s role in this critical aspect of reducing climate change impacts and ensuring a cleaner future. “Decarbonization of the global energy supply chain is essential for addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development,” he said. “Celeros FT is well-positioned to assist both current and new operators as they transition to using alternative, more environmentally friendly energy sources.”

The Draugen platform, located about 145 km off the coast of Norway, is the focus of this project. The platform engineering and upgrades necessary for its electrification are being led by Aker Solutions. The project includes replacing the main power and water injection pump turbines with an electrical power supply from a new onshore substation. This move will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with traditional oil and gas operations in the North Sea.

Celeros FT’s ClydeUnion Pumps brand will carry out this contract, assembling skidded packages at their primary facility in Glasgow before delivering them to the offshore site. This news article falls under North Sea oil news category.
