The Charlotte Hornets have announced the appointment of Charles Lee as their new head coach, making him the 12th coach in franchise history. Lee is currently the top assistant with the Boston Celtics and has previously worked with the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks. During his time with Boston, he helped the team achieve a 64-18 record, which is the best in the NBA and the fourth most wins in franchise history.
Before embarking on his NBA coaching career, Lee started out at his alma mater, Bucknell University, where he played four years of college basketball. He then went on to play professionally overseas for four seasons before returning to the states to join the NBA. Lee expressed his excitement about joining the Hornets and working with their talented young core of players. He believes in the passion for basketball in North Carolina and is eager to get started in Charlotte.
The decision to hire Lee came after former head coach Steve Clifford stepped down in early April. With Clifford’s departure, the Hornets are thrilled about bringing Lee on board. They are looking forward to introducing him, his wife Lindsey, and his daughters to the Hornets community and partnering with him to build something special in North Carolina. A news conference will be held after Boston’s playoff run concludes to officially welcome Lee as the new head coach of Charlotte Hornets.
