As a result of these cruises, nearly $600,000 in direct spending was contributed to the city’s economy. This spending supported a range of businesses, including shops, restaurants, transportation providers, tour operators, and small businesses in Duluth and other Great Lakes ports.
The influx of visitors had a significant impact on the local economy and helped to promote the unique appeal of Duluth as a destination. Dan Hartman, Executive Director of the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center, expressed enthusiasm about the influx of visitors and noted that many of them would not have come to Duluth otherwise. Anna Tanski, Tourism Director of Cruise the Great Lakes, highlighted the organization’s commitment to promoting the unique cruising experiences available in the region and emphasized the growing popularity of Great Lakes cruises as a destination.
