Emmi’s plan to dominate the patisserie industry in France

Emmi, a Swiss dairy company known for its caffè latte, cheese, and yogurts, has been active abroad for many years. The company generates almost 60 percent of its group sales abroad, totaling around 4.2 billion francs. Under the leadership of CEO Ricarda Demarmels, Emmi plans to expand its specialty business by acquiring French dessert manufacturer Mademoiselle Desserts.

The acquisition is a strategically important step for Emmi as it will increase the share of desserts in group sales from 9 to 17 percent. Mademoiselle Desserts produces high-quality patisserie products and supplies them to various outlets in France, England, and the Benelux countries. By acquiring this company, Emmi aims to establish itself as a leading market position in niche businesses and further expand its presence in the global market.

Emmi will spend 900 million euros on the acquisition, which will be financed with cash and loans. While the transaction is still subject to approval from French competition authorities and employee representatives, stock analysts have expressed positive views on the takeover due to the complementary nature of the two companies’ businesses and the potential for increased profit margins. If approved, this strategic move demonstrates Emmi’s commitment to expanding its specialty business and establishing itself as a major player in the global dairy industry.
