Free health screenings and classes offered in Detroit for Public Health Week

In the coming week, Detroit is hosting a Public Health Week offering free health screenings to its residents. The Detroit Health Department has teamed up with various organizations, including the Detroit Police Department precincts, recreation centers, and community members, to host a variety of screenings and classes. This year’s event includes blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and kidney function checks, HIV and syphilis testing, fitness classes, CPR and Narcan training, mental health makeovers, lead screenings and a men’s panel discussion called Cuts and Conversations.

Screenings and events will take place at various locations throughout the week. On Wednesday from 11 am to 3 pm senior health and wellness screenings will be held at St. Pat’s Senior Center. On Thursday from 11 am to 3 pm health and wellness screenings will be conducted at Patton Recreation Center followed by an iDecide Teen Open House at Detroit Health Department from 5-7:30 pm. On Friday the Justice Walk will take place from 11 am to 3 pm at 2875 W. Grand Blvd. On Saturday from noon to 2 pm Cuts and Conversations will be held at Heilmann Recreation Center as well as Mental Health Makeover and Massages at the same location while Dads and Sons Basketball Challenge takes place from 2:30-5 pm.
