Erdogan’s Party Fails to Regain Control in Istanbul and Ankara, Marking a New Era for Turkish Politics

In the recent local elections in Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s party failed to regain control of Istanbul and Ankara. The CHP, the republicans, have surpassed Erdogan’s own party as the country’s leading political force. With 57% of votes counted in Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu has increased his lead over Murat Kurum, with Imamoglu currently having 50.5% of the votes and Kurum trailing by 9 points.

In Ankara, another key city that Erdogan lost five years ago, Mansur Yavas is currently leading with 58.4%, while Erdogan’s AKP candidate is at 33%. Voter turnout was high throughout Turkey, with over 90% turnout recorded. The CHP and opposition are strong in coastal regions, while central Anatolia and the Black Sea remain with Erdogan’s party.

The pro-Kurdish party Dem is leading in provinces with Kurdish majorities. Although Erdogan’s party did win in some provinces overall, they have lost their position as the leading political force in the country. The CHP republicans have surpassed them in votes. Pro-Kurdish votes have decreased to a current rate of 5.7%. In light of these election results, various other topics such as private school investments, product reviews, calligraphy lessons, and nursing paper writing services are being discussed on different platforms.
