Exploring the Challenges and Opportunities of Artificial Intelligence: El Aleph Festival Returns with a New Theme

The eighth edition of El Aleph: Festival of Art and Science is set to take place from May 8 to 19, with the theme Challenges of artificial intelligence and other intelligences. Juan Ayala, the technical secretary of Planning and Programming of UNAM Culture, stated that this event will provide a space for dialogue, listening, and reflection on the impact of artificial intelligence tools across various disciplines of human knowledge.

The festival will feature 255 participants in more than 72 activities and 90 functions, including talks, workshops, plays, music, dance, and cinema. Various prominent scientists and international artists will enrich the experience of attendees over a period of 10 days.

The festival will showcase visual conceptual art in several venues, including the Colegio de San Ildefonso and the Palace of Autonomy. At the Colegio de San Ildefonso, Brian Eno’s major exhibition “Face to Face for Mexico” will be featured. The Palace of Autonomy will host six exhibitions utilizing artificial intelligence tools. The collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Mexico City and the Colegio de San Ildefonso has allowed for the creation of this diverse and captivating program.

One highlight at the festival is Mozart Requiem by Gloria Contreras, a work executed by the UNAM Choreographic Workshop that has not been offered for many years. Another film titled “Dwellers among the waters,” powered by artificial intelligence, will question human conditions and realities through visual pieces. Various speakers, including Hannah Price and José Gordon, will address the fusion of artificial intelligence technologies with storytelling expertise and discuss different perspectives on AI across various fields of reflection.

Overall, El Aleph: Festival
