Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg Teases Upcoming Augmented-Reality Prototype: Meta’s ‘True’ AR Glasses Coming Soon

Mark Zuckerberg recently shared his excitement about Meta’s upcoming augmented-reality prototype. During an interview with YouTuber Kane Sutter, also known as Kallaway, Zuckerberg teased the company’s latest “full holographic” glasses. The CEO expressed great anticipation in showcasing these glasses to a wider audience after receiving positive feedback from individuals who have already seen them.

The first version of Meta’s “true” AR glasses, known internally as Orion, is expected to be unveiled at the fall Connect conference. While these glasses may not be available for purchase right away, presenting such advanced technology could generate buzz around Meta’s continued investments in the AR space. Zuckerberg reassured that despite the thicker frames needed to accommodate the AR technology, these glasses will still resemble glasses rather than a headset like Meta’s Quest or Apple’s new Vision Pro.

Meta’s chief technology officer, Andrew Bosworth, previously stated that the upcoming AR glasses could be some of the most advanced technology in their field within their domain. Given the overwhelming demand for Meta Ray-Bans, Zuckerberg emphasized the importance of integrating AR technology while keeping these products aesthetically appealing. With advancements in AI, Zuckerberg believes that even simpler AR products will have significant consumer appeal soon due to their improved functionality without requiring full holograms.

Over time, Meta has invested billions in its Reality Labs division, which focuses on developing cutting-edge products such as VR and AR wearables and metaverse software supporting them. Zuckerberg emphasized that it will take time for these products to deliver substantial returns, signaling a long-term commitment to the development of advanced technologies within the AR and VR space.
