FIFA has released an evaluation report that ranks Brazil’s bid for the 2027 Women’s World Cup higher than those submitted by Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium. This marks the first time that members of soccer governing body will have an open vote to determine the tournament’s hosts. The FIFA Congress will vote on the two bids on May 17 at its meeting in Bangkok.
Brazil’s bid received an average score of 4.0 out of 5, while the joint European bid received a score of 3.7. Both bids were deemed to qualify for consideration as they exceeded the minimum hosting requirements in the technical evaluation. The United States and Mexico withdrew their joint bid last week, with U.S. Soccer announcing their focus on hosting the 2031 tournament. South Africa also dropped its bid last year, stating they would aim for the 2031 tournament.
Brazil has previously hosted the men’s World Cup in 1950 and 2014 but has never hosted the Women’s World Cup. Germany hosted the Women’s World Cup in 2011, and Australia and New Zealand held it in 2023, marking the first time it was hosted by two nations. It will be exciting to see which country is selected to host
