At the Fratelli d’Italia “Italy changes Europe” conference in Pescara, Fincantieri CEO Pierroberto Folgiero proposed a significant project to create Italian technology that involves small, medium, and large companies. The focus of this project would be on the Mediterranean region, both geopolitically and in relation to energy and other sectors connected to defense.
Folgiero highlighted the critical role that Italy plays as a nation located near the Mediterranean Sea. The sea is home to numerous submarine cables, telecommunication lines, and gas pipelines, as well as critical infrastructures that require protection. Furthermore, he emphasized the potential for economic and technological growth in the region due to mining activities.
In terms of underwater technology, Fincantieri plans to produce smaller submarines and drones ranging from three to nine meters. These will be used by the Italian Navy to safeguard critical infrastructures in the Mediterranean region. With this project’s success, Italy can become a major player in underwater technology while contributing to European security efforts.
