Finland’s Foreign Minister Urges Europe to Act on Ukraine’s Dire Situation

Foreign Minister Valtonen has expressed concern about Ukraine’s dire situation and called on Europe to do more to help the country. With dwindling ammunition and troops, Ukraine lost Avdijvka in February and now faces a threat to the strategically important Chasiv Yar. US Forces Europe Commander and NATO Supreme Military Commander Christopher G. Cabbages recently stated that without help, Ukraine is losing the war.

Valtonen questions if Europe still believes in Ukraine’s chance to win, given that many thought Kyiv would fall in a few days just over two years ago, which did not happen. However, now Ukraine needs support to turn the situation in its favor, which could come from either the United States or Europe. Valtonen appreciates initiatives like the Czech ammunition purchase and President Macron’s aid efforts but criticizes Germany’s hesitation to provide weapons due to internal political discussions. He emphasizes that while some may suggest potential solutions involving territorial concessions, Valtonen and Ukraine reject such ideas citing lack of trust in Russia.

Valtonen also highlights Finland’s significant support for Ukraine by mentioning their aid packages and security commitments. He urges all European countries to maintain their support for Ukraine in all discussions and forums while acknowledging that some have suggested territorial concessions as a potential solution. However, Valtonnen emphasizes that such ideas are rejected by both him and Ukraine as they see them as an abandonment of their fight for independence and freedom during Euromaidan protests.

In conclusion, Finland’s Foreign Minister believes that Europe could do more to assist Ukraine as the situation is dire for the country with dwindling ammunition and troops lost strategically important cities like Avdijvka and threatened cities like Chasiv Yar without help from outside sources like NATO allies or Russia.

It is crucial that Europe takes action immediately before it is too late for Ukrainians who have been fighting against Russian aggression since 2014 with little support from European countries except France under President Macron.

The international community should take note of this crisis unfolding in Eastern Europe, which could affect global security if left unchecked.
