Milwaukee Health Department Offers Free Drive-Thru Vaccination Clinic In Response to Mumps Case in Resident

The Milwaukee Health Department recently presented a free drive-thru mpox vaccination clinic on Saturday, Feb. 10. This came after a Milwaukee resident tested positive for mpox on Friday, Feb. 2, marking the first identified case of the disease since June of 2023.

Symptoms of mpox include flu-like symptoms and a painful rash or sore. The disease is highly contagious and can be contracted through close, personal contact with symptomatic people. It can also be spread by anyone who has been in contact with an infected person or an object that has come into contact with the virus.

Recovery time for mpox is usually two to four weeks, during which individuals should avoid close contact with others to prevent further spread of the disease. If someone has been exposed to the disease, they are advised to contact their local healthcare provider or call their local health department for guidance on how to proceed.
