From Mapping to Imaging: My First Day as SOWG Chair on Sol 513

As a journalist, I rewrote the article to make it unique:

The Sol 513 planning session was my first as the SOWG Chair. I spent most of the day mapping out a comprehensive list of tasks for the rover, with an emphasis on capturing high-resolution images of its wheels using MAHLI. To ensure that we didn’t drain the rover’s battery too much, we strategically planned short drives in between imaging sessions.

Despite this constraint, we still managed to fit in some post-drive scientific tasks into our plan. These included conducting an active measurement of hydrogen beneath the surface using DAN, performing a cloud search with Navcam, and taking necessary imagery to plan targeted observations for Sol 514.

As a result of our early start time – command sequences had to be sent to the rover by 5 PM Pacific time – we were able to accomplish a lot in one day. It was quite busy and productive, despite not being as early as the previous day when I arrived at work before sunrise. Overall, it was an exciting day of planning for Sol 513’s rover activities.
