German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck’s visit to Kiev on Thursday was focused on strengthening the country’s economy, providing emergency aid, and addressing Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Habeck, who also serves as the country’s economy minister, was accompanied by a business delegation. The trip coincided with Germany’s upcoming Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin, which will be hosted by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Upon arrival in Kiev, Habeck emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine in its “fight for freedom,” highlighting its struggle for self-determination, territorial integrity, and European values against Russian aggression. During his visit to Kiev, he is scheduled to meet with President Zelensky, Deputy Prime Minister and Economics Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, and Energy Minister German Galushchenko among others.
After his visit to Kiev, Habeck traveled to Moldova to meet with Prime Minister Dorin Recean. Moldova is a pro-Western country that sees itself threatened by Moscow and shares a border with Ukraine. The trip underscored Germany’s commitment to supporting Ukraine and its neighboring countries in the face of Russian aggression and promoting stability and prosperity in the region.
