Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has extended his contract by two years, taking him beyond the upcoming European Championship and through the 2026 World Cup. This news also puts an end to the possibility of Nagelsmann returning to Bayern Munich, who are currently searching for a new coach for next season. The German soccer federation announced on Friday that its supervisory board and shareholders have unanimously decided to keep Nagelsmann in charge of the national team after Euro 2024.
Nagelsmann was previously fired by Bayern as they opted to bring in Tuchel in March 2023. However, this decision came after two high-profile rejections, putting an end to his time with Bayern. Unfortunately, Bayern failed to secure the Bundesliga title this season for the first time since 2012. Despite this setback, Nagelsmann expressed his gratitude for being able to continue as the coach of the national team, stating that it was a decision made from the heart.
Nagelsmann feels honored to train the national team and work with the best players in the country. This extension of his contract ensures that he will continue to lead Germany through some major tournaments in the coming years. Nagelsmann’s positive change brought a recent overhaul of the squad following wins over France and Netherlands earlier this year. With Germany set to host Euro 2024, Nagelsmann is excited about leading them through this tournament and beyond.
