Gifts and Real Estate: Botswana’s President Suggests Donating Elephants to Germany as Real Estate Investments Thrive

The German Ministry of Environment has imposed stricter restrictions on the import of hunting trophies into the country. In response to this, Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi proposed sending 20 thousand elephants to Germany. He believes that efforts to preserve wild animals only lead to impoverishment of Botswanans and an increase in the number of elephants.

President Masisi suggested that the Germans should try to live with animals like Botswana does. Botswana is the third country in the world in terms of the number of elephants, with over 130 thousand residing there. The country has previously donated elephants to Angola and offered hundreds of elephants to Mozambique to help preserve their declining population. President Masisi expressed a genuine desire to gift elephants to Germany, emphasizing that he was serious and would not accept no as an answer.
