Gritty Runners Gear Up for 2024 World Athletics Cross-Country Championships in Serbia Amidst Scorching Temperatures

Some of the world’s grittiest runners are set to compete at the 2024 World Athletics Cross-Country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia on March 30. The race will take place at Friendship Park, a relatively flat course with some challenges like a hay maze and a short, steep blue hill. However, temperatures on race day are expected to reach around 80 degrees, adding an extra element of difficulty to the competition.

For those looking to watch the World Cross-Country Championships, they can catch the action live on CNBC from 6 to 9 a.m. ET. The event will also be live streamed on Peacock during the same time frame. Viewers outside of the U.S. can find broadcast details on the event’s official website.

In the women’s senior race, Beatrice Chebet of Kenya is the reigning champion and the favorite to win, though she faces tough competition from her compatriot Agnes Jebet Ngetich. Team USA will be represented by athletes like Weini Kelati, Allie Ostrander, and Katie Izzo. In the men’s senior race, Ugandan runners Jacob Kiplimo and Joshua Cheptegei will be favorites, with competition from Ethiopian Berihu Aregawi. The American men will be led by Anthony Rotich, Ahmed Muhumed, and Emmanuel Bor.

The event schedule for March 30 in Eastern Time is as follows: 6:00 a.m. – Women’s U20 6K, 6:35 a.m. – Men’s U20 8K, 7:15 a.m
