Hancock Takes on the Powerful Monsanto with ‘Lee Johnson’s David vs. Goliath’ Story

In the upcoming drama film “Monsanto”, Glen Powell, Anthony Mackie, and Laura Dern have been cast to bring a true story to life. The film follows the court case of Dewayne “Lee” Johnson, who was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin Lymphoma after using Monsanto’s weed killer. Powell will portray Brent Wisner, a young attorney who takes on Johnson’s case against the company. Laura Dern will play Dr. Melinda Rogers, Monteanto’s chief toxicologist, who testifies during the trial that the product is safe.

The script for “Monsanto” was developed in association with Zurich Avenue and written by Michael Wisner, Alexandra Duparc, Ned Benson, and John Lee Hancock. Producers include Moritz Borman, Eric Kopeloff, Philip Schulz-Deyle, and Jon Levin, with Adam McKay and Kevin Messick from HyperObject Industries also on board. Rocket Science will handle international sales while CAA Media Finance will manage US rights.

Hancock expressed his interest in telling this David vs. Goliath story due to its dramatic, moving, and relevant nature in today’s world. As a director with films like “The Blind Side” and “Saving Mr. Banks” under his belt, Hancock aims to deliver a compelling legal drama that resonates with audiences. Mackie is known for his roles in “The Hurt Locker” and “The Banker,” while Dern has extensive credits including “Marriage Story,” “Little Women,” and “Jurassic Park.” Together they hope to bring this important real-life story to the screen in a compelling and thought-provoking way.
