Ho Chi Minh City to Establish Second Industrial Revolution 4.0 Center in Southeast Asia, Boosting Innovation Efforts in Vietnam

The Center for Industrial Revolution 4.0 (C4IR) is set to be established in Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park, as part of a collaboration between the city and the World Economic Forum (WEF). This will be the second C4IR center in Southeast Asia, following Malaysia’s establishment in 2023, and the 19th in the world.

Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Chairman Phan Van Mai signed a cooperation agreement with WEF leaders in Davos, Switzerland, on January 16 to establish C4IR. According to Vice Chairman Vo Van Hoan, C4IR will leverage the global C4IR network’s knowledge and experience, proposing solutions and policies that align with national and international technology trends.

C4IR will operate under the autonomy of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, with a leadership team, operations division, and support sector. The leadership team comprises representatives from government, businesses, and schools, with leading businesses playing a crucial role in implementing innovation initiatives. The operations division will pilot new technology products and engage with stakeholders in the innovation ecosystem, while the support sector will build the community, provide financial support, and facilitate knowledge sharing activities.

The operating model project of C4IR is currently in its completion stage and is expected to be submitted to Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee by May’s end. A launch event is planned for September during the Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum event. Through its connection with the global network of Industrial Revolution 4.0 Centers, C4IR aims to apply 4.0 Industrial Revolution achievements to drive innovation and create new industries for Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam.
