Everton’s 26-year-old defender Ben Godfrey is in high demand, with French giants Lyon and Serie A side Atalanta both expressing interest in signing him. Godfrey himself has hinted at his willingness to move, preferring a move to Italy despite Atalanta’s initial offer falling short of Everton’s valuation.
However, Lyon’s entry into the race changes things, as they have now made an offer of £10m for Godfrey. This offer is still below Everton’s valuation of £15m. It remains uncertain whether Lyon will come back with a higher offer for the former England international before the 30th June deadline.
Despite limited playing time under Sean Dyche last season, making just 15 Premier League appearances, Godfrey has played a total of 93 matches for Everton since joining three years ago. Selling Godfrey before the end of the transfer window would provide a financial boost for Everton as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.
