Trenitalia, Italy’s leading train operator, is expecting more than 17 million travelers to journey during the upcoming spring weekends linked to April 25th and May 1st. A significant portion of these travelers, approximately 47%, have already purchased their tickets through digital channels, which is a 5% increase compared to purchases made on site and through the App in 2023.
The growing trend towards sustainable transportation has led to an increase in bookings for train travel. Popular destinations for these spring weekends include cities of art such as Florence, Naples, Rome, and Venice, as well as foreign destinations like Switzerland. Regions like Puglia, Liguria, Sicily, and Calabria are chosen by travelers seeking seaside destinations. Additionally, there is a growing number of travelers visiting villages, with favorites including Cortona, Montepulciano, San Gimignano, Urbino, Fermo, and many more.
