Japan was ranked third in a recent travel and tourism development report released by the World Economic Forum, earning high marks for its natural and cultural resources as well as its transport infrastructure. The United States claimed the top spot on the list, followed by Spain in second place. Despite falling from first place in the previous report released during the coronavirus pandemic, Japan remains a strong player in the Asia-Pacific region.
The current report evaluated individual criteria such as cultural resources and ground and port infrastructure, with Japan ranking second for cultural resources and fourth in these areas. However, the country’s price competitiveness, tourist service, and infrastructure indicators were not as strong.
Overall, among the 119 countries and regions evaluated, France came in fourth place and Australia in fifth. In the Asia-Pacific region, China ranked eighth, Singapore 13th, and South Korea 14th. The report highlighted Japan’s strengths in cultural resources and transport infrastructure while indicating areas for improvement in certain areas.
One stunning image of Japan’s beauty captured in the report was a photo taken at Asakurayama Sengen Park in Fujiyoshida, showing Mt. Fuji, a red five-story pagoda
