Jessica Culver Selected for National Geographic-Lindblad Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship: A Journey to Alaska’s Wilderness

Dr. Jessica Culver, a doctoral student in the College of Education and Health Professions Adult and Lifelong Learning program, has been chosen to participate in the 2024 Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship program. This initiative is a partnership between National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions and includes a cohort of 35 members. Culver expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and stated her excitement at being selected for this fellowship.

As an experienced educator with 21 years of experience in Arkansas public schools, Culver is devoted to education in her home state. She currently teaches high school civics/economics and concurrent college credit history courses in the Ozark School District. Culver is eager to share her upcoming expedition with her students, which will help her grow as a global educator.

The Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship provides educators with the chance to embark on expeditions to different parts of the world, such as Antarctica, Alaska, and Patagonia. This year marks the 16th group of fellows who gain hands-on experience to bring back to their classrooms, with the goal of educating the next generation of “planetary stewards.” Culver’s expedition is scheduled to begin on June 2nd, starting with a trip aboard the National Geographic Quest to Sitka, Alaska. From there, she will continue on Juneau as part of the “Exploring Alaska’s Coastal Wilderness” Lindblad expedition.

Culver believes that this experience will help her grow as an educator by broadening her horizons and exposing her to new cultures and perspectives. She is excited about sharing this adventure with her students and hopes that it will inspire them to become more environmentally conscious global citizens. As a dedicated teacher committed to continuous learning
