Kentucky High Schools Shine on U.S. News & World Report’s Top High Schools Rankings, Despite Criticisms of Methodology

U.S. News & World Report recently released its rankings of the top high schools in the United States, with over 200 schools in Kentucky included on the list. The publication evaluated factors such as college readiness, graduation rates, and state assessment proficiency for nearly 25,000 schools to determine the rankings.

However, the ranking methodology used by U.S. News & World Report has faced criticism for favoring wealthier communities, as reported by the Detroit Free Press. Despite this backlash, Kentucky schools were well-represented in the rankings.

In Kentucky, 28 JCPS magnet schools and programs will no longer receive busing due to their inclusion on the list of top schools. The list of top schools included a variety of institutions from different areas of the state.

Among the top ten high schools in Kentucky according to U.S. News & World Report, several were also identified as among the best public high schools in Lexington based on the ranking criteria. Additionally, the top ten public high schools in Louisville were noted for their impressive performance on these criteria as well.

Overall, despite criticisms of its ranking methodology, U.S. News & World Report’s rankings provided valuable insights into some of Kentucky’s standout educational institutions and highlighted their strengths in preparing students for success beyond high school
