The upcoming Istanbul meet, which runs until May 12, marks the final chance for wrestlers to secure a quota for the upcoming Summer Games. This event will feature live streaming of all matches, with three Paris 2024 Olympic quotas up for grabs in each weight class.
The top two finalists in each division will earn Paris 2024 Olympic quotas for their countries. The third quota will be awarded to the winner of the playoff between the two bronze medallists in the weight class. At the continental qualifiers, only the top two wrestlers in each division were able to secure quotas. Masuda, originally from Japan but now representing Australia, is the current Oceania champion in her category but was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the African & Oceania qualifiers. Similarly, Barns, the Oceania champion in his weight class, was defeated in the quarter-finals at the continental qualifiers in Alexandria.
Despite Australia’s past successes in Olympic wrestling, with three medals won – one silver and two bronze – their last medal was at the 1948 London Games, and no Australian wrestlers competed at Tokyo 2020. To watch the World Wrestling Olympic Qualifiers 2024 live in Australia, viewers can stream the event on United World Wrestling’s (UWW) official website as there will be no live broadcast on any TV channel in Australia.
The schedule for Australian wrestlers in the World Wrestling Olympic Qualifiers 2024 is as follows:
