The New York State Department of Agriculture and Market Food Inspectors has announced a recall of over 40 fresh spinach products due to the presence of listeria. Solata Foods LLC of Newburgh, New York, has issued a recall for their “Fresh Spinach” after testing revealed the contamination with the harmful organism. Listeria can lead to serious and fatal infections, which is why the recall was issued.
Consumers who have purchased any of the affected products are advised to return them for a refund. The recalled fresh spinach products were distributed to local retailers in various sizes. While no illnesses have been reported so far in connection to the recall, consumers who have purchased any of the affected products are advised to return them for a refund. Listeria can cause listeriosis, with symptoms ranging from mild (such as fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea) to severe (headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions).
