Sewell announces federal funding to bolster maternal health services

At 10 a.m. CST, U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, AL-07, will hold a press conference at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing to present a $8.8 million check from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Integrated Maternal Health Services Program. The funding will be used to increase access to maternity care by partnering with the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) of Central Alabama for five years.

At 1:45 p.m. CST, Rep. Sewell will host another press conference with the City of Bessemer and the Bessemer Police Department to present a $406,200 check from the Department of Justice for co-response teams (CRT). The funding will help individuals experiencing mental health crises access proper services and avoid negative interactions with law enforcement through collaboration between mental health professionals and police officers in Bessemer, Alabama
