In the city of Houston, United States, a woman wearing a long coat entered a significant evangelical temple and opened fire at the entrance. She was killed by two off-duty officers who were carrying out security duties. According to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner, the woman entered the temple with a long weapon and a backpack shortly before 2 in the afternoon, accompanied by a child about four or five years old. The child was hit by bullets and was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
The woman made statements about having a bomb during the shooting, which led to an anti-explosive brigade being called to seize the place. However, she was shot down before any explosives could be detonated. The Lakewood Church is known for belonging to Joel Osteen, a famous pastor from Texas.
Police state that it was an “isolated incident” and that there are no security problems at the church. The investigation is still in its early stages. Governor Greg Abbott expressed condolences for those impacted by the tragic shooting and offered the full support of Texas to bring the criminal to justice. He emphasized the sacredness of places of worship and called for prayers for the Lakewood Church community.
