The Maine School of Science and Mathematics Math Team recently emerged victorious at the 45th annual Maine State Math Meet, held at the Augusta Civic Center. This prestigious event brought together the state’s top math students to demonstrate their mastery of challenging mathematical concepts. Leading up to this competition, MSSM’s Ivory team, comprised of 10 students, had amassed the highest total score in the state during the five regular math meets.
The math team is made up of talented individuals like Ari Anghel, Gabe Austin, Quinn Daly, Rye Hughes, Asher Labbe, Graham Reichert, Elizabeth Rethman, Thomas Nonken, Charley Reischer, Lochlan O’Connor and Quinn Smith. They were guided by esteemed math teachers Emmanuel Nsadha, Dr. Henry Kavle and Vanda Madore. Highlights from the state meet include Charley Reischer winning the Skip Gates Bowl, Gabriel Austin tying for fourth place among seniors and Rye Hughes placing ninth overall. Lochlan O’Connor also tied for third among juniors.
The Maine School of Science and Mathematics is a magnet high school in Maine and one of only a few public boarding schools in the country. The school’s math team has consistently excelled in competitions and this win at the Maine State Math Meet further solidifies their status as a formidable force in the math competition circuit. The students’ dedication to mathematics is evident through their impressive performance on this stage.
