The FTC ban on noncompete agreements has sparked different opinions among medical associations. While the Radiology Business Management Association and the American College of Radiology have not taken a definitive stance, younger radiologists are pushing for more flexibility in their employment options, while older shareholders are concerned about the impact on practice valuations if physicians leave for new private equity firms.
On the other hand, the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) has expressed support for the ban, arguing that such clauses are unfair, exploitative, and coercive. ACEP believes that its members should have the freedom to practice emergency medicine without being restricted by noncompete agreements.
Dr. Ben White, a Texas neuroradiologist, and Dr. Nisha Mehta, a radiologist and founder of Physician Side Gigs, have also weighed in on the issue. While there may be many nuances to consider with different employer types and physician roles, they believe that the ruling will likely have a significant impact on physicians and their contracts in the future.
