On April 6, 2024, the School of Public Health celebrated its new home in the recently renovated Edna S. Brigham Building with joy and pride. The occasion was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, with opening remarks from University leadership.
President Sandoval spoke warmly about the School’s impact in the community, emphasizing its role in preparing students to take on leadership roles in the future of public health for Nevada and beyond. He highlighted the School’s influence on policy, systemic changes, health program development and evaluation, the provision of wide-scale services, and innovative research.
Under Dean Akpinar-Elci’s leadership, the school has made significant progress since she assumed her role in Fall 2021. During her address on Thursday, she reflected on the journey that had led to this day and expressed gratitude for the collaborative effort that brought the shared vision to life.
“Today we are not just celebrating bricks and walls, we are celebrating the people who went above and beyond to assist us in creating this space where passion meets purpose,” she remarked. The new home in the Brigham Building represents a significant milestone for the School of Public Health, providing a dedicated space for students, faculty, and staff to continue their important work in promoting public health and making a positive impact in the community.
