New Business Incubator in Cleveland: Unlocking Biotech and Health Tech Potential in Ohio

As per data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Bioengineering employment is projected to increase by 5% from 2022 to 2032, which is faster than the average for all occupations. Meanwhile, Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) is currently undergoing renovations on one of its buildings to create a business incubator that supports startup businesses in biotech, health tech, and engineering.

The renovation process for the building is expected to cost approximately $50 million and will be completed incrementally. The incubator aims to provide a platform for businesses in Northeast Ohio to leverage technology, create jobs, and contribute positively to society.

Andrew Cornwell, director of the business incubator at CWRU, stressed that the application process for businesses looking to work out of the facility is straightforward. The incubator is designed to facilitate human interaction, which is crucial for innovation and scientific advancements. Michael Oakes, senior vice president of resource and technology management at CWRU, emphasized that with the support of hospital partners and the medical school, the business incubator will provide a significant advantage to businesses in the biotech sector as it expects growth in Ohio.
