New CEO Ryan Crosby Elevates World Surf League Brand with Passion for Surfing and Business Experience

Ryan Crosby, a seasoned executive with experience in the gaming and streaming industry, has been appointed as the next CEO of the World Surf League (WSL). Crosby, who previously worked at Activision, Netflix, and Hulu, will take on his new role on May 13th.

In an interview with Surfer Magazine, Crosby expressed his excitement about leading the WSL and highlighted his passion for surfing. He stated that he believes surfing is not just a competitive sport but also a way of life, passion, and global community. His goal is to leverage his experience to elevate the WSL brand, strengthen the connection with fans and make surfers proud.

Crosby will face significant challenges in his new role as he takes over during a period of transition for the league. The retirement of five-time world champion Carissa Moore, the potential departure of Kelly Slater and reigning world champion Filipe Toledo taking a mental health break from competition are some of the changes that need to be managed carefully. However, Crosby is confident that he can navigate these transitions and continue to grow the league.

The WSL has been more involved in guiding the league after the sudden departure of previous CEO Erik Logan in June. The organization recently announced partnerships with ESPN+ for streaming competitions and new sponsors like Bonsoy, Lexus and Eventbrite. The WSL Finals are scheduled to be held in California in September.

Crosby’s appointment was welcomed by many in the surfing community who believe he brings a fresh perspective and energy to the league. His strong connections to surf culture and industry will undoubtedly help him excel in this role as he continues to grow one of the most popular sports globally.

Overall, Ryan Crosby’s appointment as CEO of WSL marks an exciting new chapter for both him and surfing culture worldwide. With his experience and passion for surfing combined with his leadership skills gained from years working in other industries such as gaming and streaming
