New Discovery: Aberlady Targeted for Drilling on Mars

On Monday, we embarked on a short drive and were successful in identifying two potential drilling targets. The standout candidate, referred to as “Aberlady,” displayed striking similarities in color, structure, and texture to the Sol 2365 target “Longannet.” This resemblance gave the science team confidence in Aberlady as a promising site for our first drilling efforts in the clay-bearing unit.

In order to make an informed decision about drilling at Aberlady, the science team conducted a series of observations today. They utilized instruments such as APXS and ChemCam to evaluate its structure, texture, and chemistry. In addition, detailed images were captured by MAHLI. The data gathered from these observations will play a crucial role in determining whether Aberlady is the right choice for drilling.

The results of these observations are expected to be available tomorrow, at which point the science team will be able to make their final decision on whether to proceed with drilling at Aberlady. There is great anticipation about what Aberlady may reveal, so stay tuned for updates on our findings.
